Ron Martin It was in the mid-sixties that Ron Martin made his first musical public appearance. Having played guitar since the tender age of ten he was professional by the age of fifteen. His journey of stardom began in Carlisle as a young fiery guitarist in 1965. By seventeen Ron was the guitarist at the Talk of the Border Club, and together with six other musicians, provided the backing for the stars of the day.Ron was a founder member of Soul Union who were one of the first British bands to play American Black Soul music. Needless to say, in those days he was constantly touring and eventually, after nearly twenty years, got tired of “being on the road”. His last band, known as The Martin Brothers decided to call it a day and return to the normality of life away from the heat of the spotlights. His brother Ray retired from music altogether, the trumpet player joined Eric Delaney, and The sax player, Ian, joined and is still with Simply Red. Frank Sinatra sung by Ron Martin at Furneux Festival Since retiring from full time work in January 2005, Ron devotes his musical time to the local band WildFire and to performing his Frank Sinatra act, which he considers to be in keeping for a man of his age! He also has a fully operational recording studio, which for a small fee, is open for business should anyone fancy themselves as budding singers.
